“Neverland Lost” A Portrait of Michael Jackson By Henry Leutwyler

“It is said that the Pharaohs built tombs to reveal their lives to future generations. Michael Jackson sacrificed his childhood to the calling of his musical gift. Neverland was the pyramid he constructed to a lost childhood. The artifacts captured in this book return us to the Neverland he lost.”

- Photographer Henry Leutwyler, from his book “Neverland Lost”

Thank you Henry! I’m grateful to be premiering your photos. The book is an amazing document of Mike’s treasures. His clothes, art, and artifacts express the essence of the greatest pop icon of our time. Mike truly was a King!

- Kanye West

“Neverland Lost” will be released May 31 by Steidl. The exhibition opening will be held at M+B gallery in Los Angeles on June 10th.

Ian Francis ‘Exodus’ Opening at Lazarides

Ian Francis’ first London solo show opened this week at Lazarides gallery signaling his departure from the UK to new pastures in the United States – hence his show’s title; Exodus. A large body of works filled up Lazarides not only in numbers but in color and energy, the paintings, mostly accented in reds and blues, are painted with a liberal sense of movement and energy. I really like his use of white within his works, I feel it creates a harshness of light or energy which compliments this sense of movement and happenings.

Erykah Badu – Window Seat video

“They who play it safe are quick to assassinate what they do not understand.

They move in packs, ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another.

They feel most comfortable in groups, less guilt to swallow.

They are us.

This is what he have become, afraid to respect the individual.

A single person within our circumstance can move one to change, to love ourselves, to evolve.”

Hudson Mohawke

From: The UK

What: Started DJ’ing at 15. Since then he has released numerous LP’s and short mixes, original tracks and remixes of favorite songs. Although, I believe I’m a little late on this guy. His most recent work is an LP titled Butter, which came out in 2009.

I dunno what else to say. I urge you to give him a listen. It’s something different for when you’re feeling naughty.

Here’s a taste of his remix work with the British duo, Crookers:

Butter is in stores an now.

Walrus TV Artist Feature: Futura

Inspiration.

Known for pioneering a more abstract style of graffiti writing, Futura played a major role in the NYCs graffiti scene of the 70s. As the popularity of graffiti art flared in the 70’s and 80’s, Futura’s work was shown alongside artists such as Basquiat and Keith Haring. As his style developed, he began designing, and has collaborated with numerous artists and companies, including The Clash, Supreme, and A Bathing Ape. Get an inside look at his workspace and his love for b movies, video games and, apparently, all things Sony in the interview from “The Run Up,” available to the public for free for the first time, on Upper Playground’s Walrus TV.

Futura with LEGOs

futura with legos 0 Futura with LEGOs

I wish i knew how to do this. This is ART.

Documented by photographer (and also Futura’s son), 13thWitness, it looks like Futura is switching his artistic medium to the world of LEGO. Some of the latest creations include an assault rifle, slices of watermelon, futuristic buildings, a glowing red pyramid and to top it all off, a ‘District 9 Handheld’, built by the more technical parts from the LEGO inventory.

KAWS Exhibition at Galeria Javier Lopez – Opening Recap

First images have come in from the Kaws exhibition opening at Galeria Javier Lopez in Madrid, Spain. The artist is showcasing new paintings at the exhibition, that are actually much less colorful than previous ones and in terms of style a little more classic. We love the direction with a lot of black on black pieces, as well as red on red. On top of the paintings Kaws is also showing some new Chum bronze sculptures.
